Les chirurgiens transplantologues peuvent dor\u00e9navant \u00e9valuer, de mani\u00e8re objective, la fonction pulmonaire \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur du corps du donneur sur une plus longue p\u00e9riode et d\u00e9cider, en toute confiance, s\u2019ils utilisent ou non le poumon du donneur pour une greffe. Depuis le tout premier essai clinique effectu\u00e9 en 2008, le syst\u00e8me EVLP a \u00e9t\u00e9 adopt\u00e9 partout dans le monde et a permis de sauver la vie de centaines de patients aux prises avec une maladie pulmonaire en phase terminale.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-40f033e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"40f033e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\u00c0 propos de l\u2019innovateur<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6b93930 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6b93930\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Le Dr Shaf Keshavjee est un \u00e9minent chirurgien thoracique reconnu mondialement et agit \u00e0 titre de chirurgien en chef de la facult\u00e9 de chirurgie Sprott du R\u00e9seau universitaire de sant\u00e9 \u00e0 Toronto. Il est aussi directeur du programme de greffe de poumon de Toronto et de Latner Thoracic Research Laboratories, le plus important centre de recherche sur la greffe de poumon au monde. Le Dr Keshavjee a suivi sa formation m\u00e9dicale \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto en 1985 pour ensuite poursuivre ses \u00e9tudes au sein des divisions de chirurgie g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, de chirurgie cardiaque et de chirurgie thoracique de cette m\u00eame universit\u00e9. Il s\u2019est par la suite engag\u00e9 dans une formation postdipl\u00f4me professionnel \u00e0 la Harvard University et \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Londres. En d\u00e9but de carri\u00e8re, le Dr Keshavjee a mis au point une formule permettant de pr\u00e9server les poumons d\u2019un donneur pour accro\u00eetre la fonction pulmonaire apr\u00e8s la greffe. Cette pratique est aujourd\u2019hui consid\u00e9r\u00e9e dans le monde entier comme la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence. Le Dr Keshavjee a une fois de plus suscit\u00e9 un vif int\u00e9r\u00eat dans le monde gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses travaux de recherche tout \u00e0 fait avant-gardistes sur la remise en \u00e9tat et la r\u00e9paration d\u2019un poumon endommag\u00e9 \u00e0 greffer par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire de son syst\u00e8me de perfusion pulmonaire Ex Vivo (Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion [EVLP]). Cette recherche a permis de rendre les poumons endommag\u00e9s utilisables aux fins cliniques et d\u2019accro\u00eetre de fa\u00e7on consid\u00e9rable le nombre de poumons pouvant \u00eatre greff\u00e9s. Le Dr Keshavjee a si\u00e9g\u00e9 aux conseils d\u2019administration de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 internationale de transplantation cardiaque et pulmonaire et de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne de transplantation. \u00c0 l\u2019heure actuelle, il agit \u00e0 titre de pr\u00e9sident d\u00e9sign\u00e9 de l\u2019American Association for Thoracic Surgery. En 2014, le Dr Keshavjee a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 Officier de l\u2019Ordre du Canada \u2013 la plus prestigieuse d\u00e9coration civile du pays soulignant le d\u00e9vouement exceptionnel d\u2019une personne envers la communaut\u00e9 ou une contribution extraordinaire \u00e0 la nation \u2013 pour son engagement r\u00e9solu \u00e0 sauver la vie des patients aux prises avec une maladie pulmonaire
