D., a transform\u00e9 le domaine de la surveillance structurale avec son invention de capteur acoustique distribu\u00e9 (DAS), une technologie \u00e0 fibres optiques ultra-sensible et pr\u00e9cise install\u00e9e dans des structures de g\u00e9nie civil, et capable de d\u00e9tecter les contraintes dynamiques et les vibrations hautes et basses fr\u00e9quences qui indiquent la formation de fissures. Sa technologie, qui a plus d\u2019applications, une plus petite taille, une meilleure capacit\u00e9 pr\u00e9dictive et un meilleur point de co\u00fbt, pr\u00e9sente le Canada comme une force novatrice de changement sur la sc\u00e8ne mondiale. D., titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en fibre optique et photonique et professeure de physique \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Ottawa, est une experte de renomm\u00e9e mondiale en capteurs \u00e0 fibres. Elle est le cerveau des capteurs acoustiques et vibratoires distribu\u00e9s qui trouvent une multitude d\u2019applications pour assurer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9, de la surveillance des vagues oc\u00e9aniques pour la d\u00e9tection pr\u00e9coce des catastrophes naturelles, \u00e0 la d\u00e9tection de contraintes et des fissures dans les structures de g\u00e9nie civil, les avions et les satellites. Son travail a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un changement tectonique dans la fa\u00e7on dont nous surveillons la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des infrastructures et est rapidement devenu la nouvelle norme mondiale. Mme Bao est une brillante scientifique et une dirigeante visionnaire, dont la recherche fondamentale et appliqu\u00e9e de la physique, r\u00e9volutionnaire, lui a valu une reconnaissance mondiale. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lue boursi\u00e8re de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 royale du Canada en 2009 pour ses contributions remarquables dans son domaine et dans la vie publique canadienne. Elle est la premi\u00e8re femme \u00e0 remporter deux m\u00e9dailles de l\u2019Association canadienne des physiciens et physiciennes pour les r\u00e9alisations exceptionnelles et la seule Canadienne \u00e0 avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 soulign\u00e9e dans le premier calendrier de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 internationale d\u2019optique et de photonique intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Women in Optics \u00bb (Les femmes et l\u2019optique). En plus d\u2019\u00eatre une scientifique de renomm\u00e9e mondiale, Mme Xiaoyi Bao est, sans aucun doute, un mod\u00e8le inspirant pour les femmes aspirant \u00e0 une carri\u00e8re scientifique r\u00e9ussie, significative et retentissante. Elle a \u00e9galement obtenu un doctorat honorifique de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Lethbridge et est membre \u00e9lue du conseil d\u2019administration du Conseil de recherches en sciences naturelles et en g\u00e9nie du Canada (1998-2001), membre \u00e9lue du conseil de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 royale du Canada (SRC) (2009-2011) et secr\u00e9taire honoraire de l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie des sciences de la SRC (2009-2011). Mme Bao est une v\u00e9ritable pionni\u00e8re qui rel\u00e8ve le d\u00e9fi de rendre la technologie plus efficiente, plus efficace et plus \u00e9conomique, afin de rendre les infrastructures plus s\u00fbres pour des millions de personnes partout dans le monde.
