We at the Rideau Hall Foundation believe that giving is an essential part of what it means to be Canadian. That’s not to say Canadians have a monopoly on this particular virtue. Rather, we believe that giving is woven into the fabric of our national identity.
What we are experiencing across the globe now is a particularly difficult situation, the likes of which we have not seen in many generations. While vitally important, self-isolation and physical distancing can make us feel disconnected from the people and communities around us. And at a time when we need them most.
One way to counteract these feelings of isolation is through giving. That’s why the Rideau Hall Foundation is working closely with CanadaHelps to promote #GivingTuesdayNow – a community-driven response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 5, 2020 people around the world have the opportunity to stand together in unity, to use their individual power of generosity to stay connected and heal. Our ability to give help and hope is incredibly uplifting, and one simple act of giving can inspire many more. We want to inspire those acts of giving on May 5 for #GivingTuesdayNow.
Remember that giving is not limited to financial donations. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, making positive chalk drawings on sidewalks, sharing a skill, or supporting causes through donations, every act of generosity counts.
On Tuesday, May 5, use the hashtag #GivingTuesdayNow to tell us how you’re giving back in your community, and visit the GivingTuesdayNow website for inspiration and ideas.
The world is going through a difficult time. The power of generosity and giving can transform this shared experience into a more positive one.
Stay safe,
Teresa Marques
President and CEO of the Rideau Hall Foundation
